BOISE, Idaho (4/22/09) – The National Collegiate Athletic
Association announced on Wednesday that the Boise State men’s tennis team is
one of only a few national recipients of the NCAA Division I Academic
Performance Program (APP) public recognition award.
The NCAA is
honoring Division I sports programs with public recognition awards for their
success in their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR).
Each of the teams selected for the award are in the top-10 percent of all NCAA
Division I teams in their respective sports.
The Bronco
men’s tennis program is one of 267 NCAA Division I tennis programs in the
country, becoming one of only 27 NCAA Division I men’s tennis teams earning the
APP award. The Broncos are also the only men’s team in the Western Athletic
Conference to earn the award, and join the Hawaii women’s volleyball team as the only
two teams out of the WAC to earn the honor.
BoiseState’s men’s tennis team has earned a
perfect APR of 1000, meaning in the last four years (Fall 2004 semester through
Fall 2008 semester) they have had 100-percent retention, eligibility and
graduation rates.
The APR
provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by
tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. It provides a clear
picture of the academic culture in each sport.
This is the
first APP award ever earned by any Bronco team.
