Question and Answer with Kaylea ...

Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I would visit all of the countries that my ancestors are from, Spain,
Africa, France, and Ireland. I think that is important to know where my roots are from.

Q: Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
A: My mom has been the biggest influence because she is the one who got me to those practices and always had my breakfast ready when I got up. She was always working so hard to make sure I was ready for practices and games. She is always there for me.

Q: Something that many people don’t know about you is?
A: My great-uncle was the first African American superior court judge in Alameda County as well the first African American mayor of Oakland from 1978 until 1990.

Q: What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
A: Football. Football is actually my favorite sport. I grew-up on the sidelines of my dad’s football team. I have met so many people over my lifetime just from my dad being a coach. Football will always be a big part of my life.

Q: When you were growing up, what brought/drew you to soccer?
A: My God-brother played soccer, and I wanted to do anything he was doing. My parents signed my up, and I must have enjoyed playing.

Q: Your hero in life is?
A: My hero is my dad. Growing-up on the sidelines of his football program, and going through all of his experiences, was the best time of my life besides playing college ball myself. I was always just in awe of how he ran his teams, and how his guys would respond to him. To this day all I want is to make my dad proud of me.

Q: Your favorite movie is?
A: Sandlot. Sandlot has always been my favorite movie growing-up. My God-brother and I would always watch it when we were little. The movie always had a great influence on me and how important having goals and reaching towards my goals was the most important thing in my life, especially athletically.

Q: Your favorite TV show is?
A: The Cosby’s and Fresh Prince.

Q: When you were little you wanted to be?
A: I wanted to be Pocahontas.

Q: Your motto is?
A: During your life, never stop dreaming. No one can take you away from your dreams.

Q: One word that best describes you?
A: Passionate.

Q: Your autobiography would be titled?
A: Working past barriers.

Q: What made you decide to come to Boise State?
A: When I came on my visit, I had a good time. The scenery is completely different than what I had been used to living in California. I felt comfortable while on my stay. I just felt like the people I met here were sincere people and made me feel like I would succeed here.

Q: What has surprised you most about college and why?
A: I think the adjustment from living at home with my family to living in another state that is completely different than what I am used to was the most surprising situation. Also to see how all the people on the team come from different places all over the country and world, but we all have one thing in common. And that is, we love and play soccer. I think that alone, is such a great thing.

Q: What’s your favorite class and why?
A: I liked my English class freshman year first semester. I really enjoyed my teacher and his ability to reach out to us, the students.

Q: Since coming to Boise State, you’ve learned?
A: I have learned how to become more independent, since I am from another state. I have learned about different people that come from different backgrounds than I do. I think I have had to push myself to open up to people, which is something I don’t often do. It has been good for me.

Q: Your favorite thing about the city of Boise is?
A: That the entire city surrounds itself around the University especially the athletics. There is a lot of support from the community towards the University.

Q: What do you like best about the coaching staff in general?
A: I think that they work very hard and are putting the team in the best situations to grow and develop. I have felt that way throughout my entire time here.

Q: What do you like best about the team in general?
A: I like that we can laugh and joke with each other but also have a good time even during practice. It’s always intense, but if something funny happens, we can laugh about it and enjoy our time together.

Q: Do you have a nickname that your teammates gave you? What is it and why that name?
A: Freshman year they called me Kay, so that has stuck with me for four years, I have to say, that I was disappointed that I wasn’t going to be called KP my freshman year because a senior goalie at the time was already KP.

Q: What two schools do you see as Boise State’s main rivals?
A: As far as our team, Utah State and Fresno State. Those two games will be good ones this coming season.

A: I would say Liz Ruiz.

Q: Which teammate would win “America’s Next Top Model,” and why?
A: I have no idea.

Q: Which teammate would win “Survivor,” and why?
A: Jayne Murray. She works incredibly hard and will do anything to survive.
