NAMPA, Idaho – Six NCAA provisional qualifying marks, and a school record by Eleni Kafourou, highlighted an outstanding day for the Boise State University track and field teams on Saturday (Feb. 3) at the United Heritage Invitational.

            Kafourou set a Bronco record in the triple jump mark at 42-8.75 (13.02m).  Her mark, which was also a provisional qualifying mark, broke the record of 42-2.25 set by Abigail Ferguson in 1996.  Her second provisional mark came in the long jump at 20-1.00 (6.12m) and is the third best mark in school history.  Kafourou won both events with her triple jump the eighth best collegiate mark in the nation this year, and her long jump the 14^th best.

            Theodora Xylaki and Eleni Ypsilanti also posted NCAA provisional marks for the women’s team on Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track.  Xylaki won the high jump with a height of 5-10.00 (1.78m), while Ypsilanti won the 20-pound weight throw with a personal best of 53-11.75 (19.50m).  Xylaki’s high jump is the third best all-time at Boise State, and the 12^th best collegiate mark this season.  Ypsilanti’s throw was the second best all-time Bronco mark and the 11^th best collegiate throw this season.

            Boise State’s other two provisional marks came on the men’s side.  Simon Wardhaugh recorded a personal best in the 35-pound weight throw at 64-8.00 (19.71m), which is also the second best mark in Bronco history, while Zacarias Arnos won the triple jump with a leap of 50-8.00 (15.44m).

            Becky Guyette also made into the Bronco record books when she won the women’s 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:49.66, the third fastest time in school history.

            Other Bronco winners this weekend included Kayleen McDowell in the women’s 600-meter (1:35.13) and 1,000-meter (3:01.70) runs, the women’s 4x400-meter relay team (3:53.22), the women’s distance medley relay team (13:01.00), Ty Axtman in the men’s mile run (4:20.15), Caleb Cazier in the men’s 600-meter run (1:20.62), Cody Eaton in the men’s 3,000-meter run (8:42.54) and David Walden in the men’s high jump (6-7.00 <2.01m>).

            Former Bronco and 2004 United States Olympian Jarred Rome won the men’s shot put with a mark of 60-4.50 (18.40m).

            The Bronco men and women host their final home indoor meet before the WAC Championships next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9 and 10) with the Boise State Team Invitational at the Jacksons Track.  The WAC Championships will also be held in Nampa on Feb. 23 and 24 (Friday and Saturday).
