PRESEASON NOTES: Saxton is the 2009 Western Athletic Conference Preseason  Player of the Year and a member of the preseason All-WAC team for the second straight season. In two years Saxton has written her name into the Bronco record book. She is ranked among the top-10 in 46 of 59 statistical categories. She holds 27 school records including match records for goals with four (tied for first) and points with nine. Some of her season records include most goals with 17, most assists with eight, and most points with 39. Career records include most assists with 13, most multi-assist games with three, and tied for first in most multi-goal games with five.   

SOPHOMORE (2008):  In General - Started at forward during the 20 games she played. Honors - Preseason All-WAC team ... postseason second-team All-WAC ... WAC Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 1. Statistically - Recorded six goals and eight assists for 20 points ... placed 26-of-57 shots on goal. Notable Rankings - Team: Tied for first in goals, led in assists and points ... League: First in assists, tied for seventh in goals, and third in points. Other Highlights - Scored game-winning goal against UL Monroe in Flagstaff, Ariz. ... dished out game-winning assists versus Eastern Washington in Boise and at Nevada ... recorded double-assist games against Eastern Washington, UL Monroe, and Nevada.   

FRESHMAN (2007):  In General - Started at forward in 18-of-19 gamess played. Honors - Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and first-team All-WAC honoree ... WAC Offensive Player of the Week a school record three times in one season. Statistically - Recorded 17 goals with five assists for 39 points ... took 52 shots placing 57.7 percent or 30 on goal. Notable Rankings - Team: Led in goals and points, led in game-winning goals with four, and tied for first in assists ... League: Led in goals and points ... National: Ranked sixth for points per game at 2.05, ninth in total points, fourth in goals per game at .895, and tied for sixth in goals scored. Other Highlights - First action as a Bronco came as a starter in season opener versus Portland State in Reno, Nev.,  when she recorded two goals and game-winning assist. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  In General -  2007 graduate of Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Ore. ... four-year member and three-year starter at forward for Beavers’ varsity team. Statistically - Scored 50 goals and dished out 16 assists throughout prep career ... recorded 21 goals as a junior followed by 11 goals and 11 assists as a senior. Honors - Three-time All-Metro League honoree, first-team recognition junior and senior seasons ... two-time all-state as a junior and senior ... team MVP junior year. Other Highlights - Also lettered in track and field ... high school soccer coach was Brittini Estep-Carmichael. Club -  Played club ball for FC Portland U-15 through U-18 ... club coach was Steve Anchetta. 

ACADEMICS:  Majoring in communication ... two-time Academic All-WAC honoree.

 

 

Question and Answer with Shannon...

 

Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: Italy mainly because of the food.

Q: Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
A: My mom because shes not only my mother but also my best friend. I can talk to her about anything and she always gives the best advice.

Q: Something that many people don’t know about you is?
A: That I cry in almost every movie I see.

Q: What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
A: Even though it hurts me to say, football. If its a close game its always so intense and entertaining.

Q: When you were growing up, what brought/drew you to soccer?
A: My parents started putting me on kick and chase teams when I was 3 or 4. I tried out several different sports, but soccer was the only one that stuck. Its the only sport I’ve ever truly been passionate about.

Q: Your hero in life is?
A: My grandpa Rex. At a young age he taught me so many important things about hard work and commitment. He was always made sure to make it to my soccer games and support me the best that he could.

Q: Your favorite movie is? The Hangover. So funny.
A: Your favorite TV show is? Family Guy... I can watch the same episodes over and over again and they never get old.

Q: When you were little you wanted to be?
A: Probably a professional soccer player.

Q: Your motto is?
A: Everything happens for a reason.

Q: One word that best describes you?
A: Passionate.

Q: Your autobiography would be titled?
A: I have eight fingers.

Q: What made you decide to come to Boise State?
A: The town, the campus, the coaching staff.

Q: What has surprised you most about college and why?
A: Being a collegiate athlete really is nothing like being a college student.

Q: What’s your favorite class and why?
A: My Psych 101 class sophomore year because we learned so many interesting things and professor Henderson was really entertaining.

Q: Since coming to Boise State, you’ve learned?
A: That going away from home really makes you grow up. I would suggest it for anybody looking to go to college.

Q: Your favorite thing about the city of Boise is?
A: The downtown area.

Q: What do you like best about the coaching staff in general?
A: They never settle for less than what we can do. They set goals for the team and won’t be satisfied unless these goals are reached.

Q: What do you like best about the team in general?
A: All of our personalities click. This year there was immediate chemistry between all of the freshmen and returners.

Q: Do you have a nickname that your teammates gave you? What is it and why that name?
A: Shonnon,  shanners, shan, just because they all have to do with my name.

Q: What two schools do you see as Boise State’s main rivals?
A: Hawaii and Utah State.

Q: Which teammate would win “America’s Most Talented,” and why?
A: Mandy for being the only person I’ve ever seen that can pull off purple slipper boots.

Q: Which teammate would win “America’s Next Top Model,” and why?
A: Jen because shes so thin and busty.

Q: Which teammate would win “Survivor,” and why?
A: Jayne because shes a fighter... and shes Canadian.
