BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State softball team were the first and last to score, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the six runs Fresno State scored in between as the Broncos (21-23, 4-11) dropped the first game of the series 6-3. The Broncos have now lost eight straight WAC games, dating back to Apr. 4 at San Jose State. The Bulldogs (29-18, 11-5) put up five runs over two frames to secure the victory. The Broncos were able to get on the board first with three hits in the bottom of the second. Christina Capobianco and Ashleigh Viers-Gordillo began the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with no outs. Two batters later, Kelly Sweeney ripped a double off the fence in left center to score Capobianco and give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs would respond in the top of the third to take the lead. A pair of run-scoring doubles by Haley Perkins and Caitlin Stiglich gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Aubray Zell shut the door on the rally when she entered with one out in the inning. One more run did come across on a passed ball to extend the lead to 3-1. The Bulldogs then padded their lead with two more runs in the fourth and a solo homer in sixth, pushing the lead to 6-1. The Bronco’s final homestand concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. |
