Roderick Townsend won the high jump and the shot put

AZUSA, Calif. - Roderick Townsend leads the decathlon at the halfway point of the California Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Townsend completed the first five events of the decathlon Wednesday afternoon and he will finish the remaining events beginning Thursday morning.
Townsend began the day by placing third in the 100m with a time of 11.42. He turned in another solid performance in the 400m when he took fifth place after crossing the line in 51.24.
The senior from Stockton, Calif., took his momentum from the track and brought it to the field where he won the high jump (2.08m) and earned his second fifth-place finish of the day in the long jump (6.52m). Townsend took the lead for the day when he claimed another first-place finish, this time in the shot put (12.65m).
In tomorrow's competition, Townsend will compete in the 1500m, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault and javelin. He will be joined by many of the Bronco long distance runners who will compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.
