Broncos Close Out Weekend at UVU Collegiate, Texas Relays

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State’s track and field teams competed in a fifth meet during this weekend, the UVU Collegiate Invitational hosted by Utah Valley University at the Hal Wing Track & Field on Friday, March 29. In addition, four Broncos raced in the Texas Relays’ women’s 4x200-meter relay Saturday morning, placing ninth.

The Broncos picked up five wins on Friday at the UVU Collegiate Invite, as well as 13 top-three finishes.

Throwers Matt Post and Lacie Rasley each had a big day in their respective events, recording marks near Boise State’s all-time top-three lists. Post threw a lifetime best of 202’-9.50” (61.81m) to win the hammer throw, while Rasley won the shot put with a 47’-9.50” (14.57m) mark.

Kimberly Miller also earned a win in the field events, claiming the triple jump title with a 38’-3” (11.66m) effort. She also garnered a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17’-11” (5.46m).

Lauren Lucas earned the final win for the Bronco women, claiming the 1500-meter run title in 4:40.55. Jessica Bottleberghe added a top-three finish in the middle distances, placing third in the 800-meters (2:17.12), while Tajanee Simmons added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.63w) to round out the top-three finishers for the women.

Lucas’ counterpart on the men’s side, Wyatt Diderickson, claimed the men’s 1500-meter title breaking the tape in 3:59.23. Teammate Kyle Merritt finished close behind in 4:00.05 to place second in the race.

Also earning a top-three finish for the men was Luke Schafer, who placed second in the pole vault. Schafer tied his Boise State best of 15’-11” (4.85m) for the runner-up title. In the men’s 800-meters Bryce Bergevin picked up a second-place finish in 1:53.06, while Matt Moyer clocked a time of 1:53.22 to place third in the event. Rex Stanley earned the final top-three finish for the men, placing third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.95-seconds.

Other Bronco men’s results include: Kyle Brush, 800m – 17th (1:59.90); Ryan Byrd, 3000m steeplechase – 8th (10:28.17); Nick Lobb, 3000m steeplechase – 5th (10:01.50); Jeremy Malnes, 200m – 34th (23.65) and 110m hurdles – 13th (15.57w); Joe McFadden, 1500m – 12th (4:08.24); Nathan Serrano, Pole Vault -17th (13-5.35/4.10m); Rex Stanley, 110m hurdles – 18th (16.19); Nick Tatro, 800m – 7th (1:56.25); and the 4x400-meter relay (8th, 3:29.72)

Texas Relays
The quartet of Destiny Gammage, Yvonne Bennett, Taryn Campos and Mackenzie Flannigan were the only Broncos to compete on Saturday at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The four women combined to place fifth in their heat and ninth overall in the women’s 4x200-meter relay. The team earned a time of 1:37.94 in the relay formatted meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Boise State will host its inaugural meet at the Dona Larsen Park Track and Field complex, April 6-7. The All-Idaho Cup will be a competition between the Broncos, College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene and Westminster (Utah).
