BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's track and field program learned Thursday (May 16) that 20 Broncos have earned 22 qualifying spots for the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships in Austin, Texas, May 23-25. The 20 Broncos advancing to the preliminary championships ties for the most in school history, having sent 20 qualifiers in 2007.

The Broncos will send 10 men and 10 men, including two relays to this year's championships.

Only four of the 20 Broncos have qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Championships in years past, all competing in the 2012 championships. Emma Bates, a 2012 NCAA Second-Team All-America selection in the 5000-meters, competed at the Preliminary Championships in the 5000-meters and 10000-meters last year. Alyssa Osai was a 2012 competitor in the hammer, while Justin Malnes raced in the 110-meter hurdles and Drew O'donoghue-McDonald in the 1500-meters.

Jordin Andrade holds the highest West Championships ranking for any Bronco, sitting at No. 5 in the 400-meter hurdles. Daveon Collins ranks sixth in the 200-meters and 15th in the 100-meters, while joining Andrade, Jeff Daw and Bret Scheve as the 21st-ranked 4x400-meter relay. Scheve adds the 400-meter hurdles to his plate as well, ranking 44th in the event.

Also on the track Zach Wiles ranks 23rd in the steeplechase, Justin Malnes ranks 32nd in the 110-meter hurdles, Drew O'donoghue-McDonald is 39th in the 1500-meters and David Elliott is 45th in the 5000-meters.

In field events for the Bronco men, Matt Post ranks eighth in the west in the hammer, while Austin Hamilton sits at 40th in the javelin.

Bates holds the top rank for the Bronco women heading into the meet, sitting at No. 13 in West rankings in the 10000-meters and 29th in the 5000-meters, while Tessa Murray sits just a few spots back in 33rd in the 5000-meters. Marisa VanderMalle sits at 25th in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Rici Morrill at 42nd in the 1500-meters to round out the women's distance crew.

In the sprints Mackenzie Flannigan ranks 32nd in the 100-meters and 29th in the 200-meters. Taryn Campos ranks 44th in the 200-meters and the pair are joined by Shannon Jacobs, Destiny Gammage and Heather Pilcher as possible legs on the 24th-ranked 4x100-meter relay.

Pilcher has also qualified for the meet as the 37th-best long jumper, while Alyssa Osai rounds out the women's rankings with a No. 26 spot in the hammer.

The 2013 East championships will be held in Greensboro, N.C. at North Carolina A&T.

The Broncos are each a part of a 48-person field in their respective events, except for the relays who will compete amongst a field of 24 teams in the west preliminaries. Qualifying to the final championships competition is accomplished through performance in the preliminary championships competition at each site for events contested at those competitions. Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each preliminary championships competition site to the final championships competition.

The qualifiers out of the East and West region championships will compete at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
