BOISE, Idaho – Boise State junior Jordin Andrade will be competing against the nation’s best professionals and collegians this weekend (June 20-23) at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Andrade will be one of only seven collegiate athletes in a field of 19 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles.
The Bonney Lake, Wash., native, ranks 12th headed into the event’s first round, with a season-best time of 50.11-seconds. His mark ranks fifth amongst collegiate representatives in the race.
Andrade will make his USA National’s debut at Drake Stadium, Thursday (June 20) at 3:10 p.m. MT in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles. The top-16 then advance to Friday’s semifinal (6:04 p.m. MT) while the top-eight advance to Saturday’s finals (3:36 p.m. MT).
Michael Tinsely, the 2012 London silver medalist, is the men’s 400-meter hurdle favorite with a qualifying time of 47.91-seconds.
Boise State redshirt sophomore Emma Bates awaits confirmation of entry into the meet. Bates will make the trip in hopes of earning a last minute spot in either the 5000-meter or 10000-meter fields. She ranks 23rd in the 5000-meters and 25th in the 10000-meters, currently sitting just outside the top-22 declared athletes in either race. The Elk River, Minn., native will only be entered in a race if there are athletes ahead of her who withdraw from competition prior to the race. The women's 10000-meters will take place Thursday at 7:20 p.m. MT, while the 5000-meters will run at 2:22 p.m. MT on Sunday.
Competitors who earn a top-three finish in their respective events will earn a spot on Team USA and the opportunity to travel to the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18. The fourth-place finisher will also become a member of Team USA as an alternate in his or her event.
