Boise State alum Kurt Felix got off to a good start in day one of the decathlon on Friday at the 2017 IAAF World Championships, tallying 4,293 points for sixth place at the halfway mark. The Grenadian recorded two season-best performances (100m and high jump) and is well within range of a podium finish, just 68 points away from third place.

The decathlon started with the 100m where Felix clocked an 11.08 to take 20th in the event. He scored his most single-event points of the day in the long jump after recording a mark of 7.46m for 925 points.

Felix then took seventh in both the shot put (15.01m) and the high jump (2.08m). He ended the day with a solid performance in the 400m, running a 49.09 for 18th.

Felix will begin day two tomorrow morning at 3 a.m. (MT) with the 110m hurdles.
