Boise State Tournament Notes

THE GAME: Boise State travels to Utah for the first round of the 2017 National Invitation Tournament. The Broncos (19-11) and Utes (20-11) will tip off at 8 p.m. MT, on ESPNU. Boise State is the No. 6 seed in the Illinois State quadrant.

ABOUT UTAH: The Utes finished fourth in the Pac-12 with an 11-7 conference mark. Utah is led by Kyle Kuzma’s 16.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
All-Time Series: Utah leads 4-3. The Broncos won the last meeting (Dec. 3, 2013).

BRONCOS IN THE NIT: This is Boise State’s fifth trip to the NIT, previously earning berths in 1987, 1989, 1991 and 2004. The Broncos are 3-4 all-time in the tournament, including two wins in 2004 and a win over Utah in the 1987 NIT first round.

POSTSEASON APPEARANCES: Boise State is making its 14th postseason appearance in program history and fourth in Leon Rice’s seven years as head coach (two NCAA Tournaments, one NIT and one CBI).

30 YEARS LATER: Boise State and Utah will meet 30 years and three days after the Broncos knocked off the Utes 62-61 in a first-round NIT game in Boise (March 11, 1987). Boise State forced 25 turnovers en route to the win.

ALL-MW: Chandler Hutchison and Paris Austin both earned All-Mountain West recognition. Hutchison was voted to the first team by the coaches and the second team by the media. Austin was honorable mention in both polls. Boise State has landed a first-

GUNNING FOR 20: With one more victory, Boise State will secure another 20-win season. The Broncos have won 20 games in five of Leon Rice’s first six seasons, including each of the last four. Prior to Rice’s arrival, Boise State had seven 20-win seasons and no more than three in a row. Nationally, 26 schools have clinched a fifth-straight 20-win season, with Boise State among five that can still reach the plateau.

HEATING UP: Boise State has shot better than 40 percent from three-point range in six of its past 11 games. The Broncos had eclipsed that plateau just once in the first 19 games of the season.
