BOISE, Idaho -
Boise State men’s basketball signed 6-foot-10 Kevin Allen to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Leon Rice announced Thursday. Allen averaged 13.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game at Pratt (Kan.) Community College this season. He will join the program as a junior with a redshirt season still available.
“We are really excited to get Kevin,” said head coach Leon Rice. “He fills a need for us with size we’ve been lacking and the departure of Ryan Watkins. Kevin has tremendous upside and with his work ethic and our system we’re really looking forward to his development as a Bronco.”
This season Allen guided Pratt to a 22-13 record, the Region VI championship and a berth in the NJCAA Tournament. Allen shined brightest on the biggest stage, scoring 31 points and pulling down 17 rebounds in the Beavers’ first-round loss. It was his ninth double-double of the season.
He also averaged 1.8 blocks per game, ranking 39th in the country. His 111 offensive rebounds ranked No. 29 in the NJCAA.
Allen, a native of Ecorse, Mich., spent his freshman season at Jackson (Mich.) Community College as a freshman. He averaged 8.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, shooting 55 percent from the floor.
Allen attended Ecorse Community High School, leading the school to the district finals in 2011 and 2012.
Allen joins prep standouts Chandler Hutchison (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and David Wacker (Converse, Texas) as members of Boise State’s 2014-15 incoming class. Hutchison and Wacker both signed NLIs during the early-signing period in November. Wacker was recently named the 5A Texas State Player of the Year while Hutchison is currently listed as the No. 80 recruit in the country by ESPN.com.
