BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State men's basketball team will face Kentucky in 2013-14, the schools announced Wednesday. The game is set for Dec. 10, in Lexington, Ky., and the tip time will be announced at a later date.
The game will be the first meeting all-time between the Broncos and Wildcats.
"We want to continue to build on what Coach Rice and his staff have accomplished in their time at Boise State," Director of Athletics Mark Coyle said. "Scheduling marquee games that will draw interest nationally is part of that process."
Next season will be the third-straight the Broncos have faced a school from the Southeastern Conference. Boise State defeated LSU 89-70 at Taco Bell Arena this past season, the first win over an SEC program in school history. The Broncos fell at LSU in 2011-12 (64-45).
Prior to the series with the Tigers, the Broncos also faced SEC schools Vanderbilt and Arkansas, falling to the Commodores in the 1993 NCAA Tournament (92-72), and to the Razorbacks during the 1975-76 season (72-56).
Earlier this spring Boise State also announced it will play in the 2013 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, an eight-team tournament in Honolulu, Dec. 22-25. Including the Broncos, seven of the eight teams competing in the event have been announced: Hawai'i, George Mason, Iowa State, Saint Mary's, Oregon State and South Carolina.
The event will mark Boise State's first major preseason tournament appearance since the 2000 Pearl Harbor Classic.
The remainder of the Broncos' 2013-14 schedule will be announced later this summer.
Boise State is coming off of a season in which it went 21-11, and made its first at-large appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Boise State has won at least 20 games in two of head coach Leon Rice's first three seasons with the Broncos.
