Williams Earns Second MW Honor
Oct. 16, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State CB/PR/KR Avery Williams has been named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.

Williams, who previously earned the honor back on Sept. 4 after his performance in Boise State's season-opening 24-13 win over Troy, sparked the Broncos' 31-14 win at No. 19/18 San Diego State Saturday night with a 53-yard punt return for a touchdown, his second such score of the season. Overall in the contest, Williams averaged 28.5 yards over two punt returns, and returned a kickoff 43 yards to lead the Broncos on special teams.

For the season, Williams leads the Mountain West and ranks ninth in the FBS with a punt-return average of 15.9 yards. His two punt-return touchdowns are also just one behind national leader Dante Pettis of Washington, and make him the first Bronco to have multiple punt-return scores since Kyle Wilson had three in 2008.

Williams played one of his best all-around games Saturday, getting the start at cornerback and making six solo tackles in addition to breaking up a pass.

Boise State (4-2, 2-0 MW) returns to Albertsons Stadium this Saturday night, hosting Wyoming (4-2, 2-0 MW) at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN2.
