    BOISE, Idaho - Boise State heads to Tucson, Ariz., this week for the 2017 Mountain West Men's Golf Championships, set for Friday-Sunday (April 21-23) on the par-72, 7,1-94-yard Catalina Course at the Omni Tucson National Resort.

    The Broncos will be represented by the quintet of senior Kyle Mitsunaga, junior Donny Hopoi, and freshmen Brian Humphreys, Connor Johnstone and Mason Schulze. It will mark the second-straight tournament in which Boise State has played this group, as the quintet finished ninth at the PING Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah, from April 10-11.

    Mitsunaga is the only member of the group to have played at the Mountain West Championships before, having competed at last year's event where he finished tied for 22nd at 1-over, and in 2015.

    Boise State All-Time At The Mountain West Championships
    This weekend's tournament will mark Boise State's sixth appearance at the Mountain West Championships, all being played on the Catalina Course of the Omni Tucson National Resort. Boise State's top finish at the event is sixth, having been achieved in its debut in 2012 and again in 2015. The Broncos have also finished tied for seventh (2013), ninth (2016) and 11th (2014).

    The highest individual finish for a Bronco golfer at the event is fifth, achieved twice. Scott Spiewak came in tied for fifth at 2-under in 2012 while Taeksoo Kim finished fifth at 2-under in 2013.

    Last year, the Bronco quintet of Mitsunaga, David Elliott, Alex Francois, Logan France and Shane Allor finished ninth with a combined team score of 872 (+20). France led the team by finishing tied for eighth at 4-under (71-67-74=212), just five strokes back of winner Trevor Clayton from Fresno State. France's 4-under is the lowest three-round score by a Bronco at the Mountain West Championships.

    The Squad
    Senior and Boise native Kyle Mitsunaga is the only member of this year's Bronco contingent to have played at the Mountain West Championships, having competed at the event each of the past two seasons. Mitsunaga finished tied for 30th at 8-over in 2015 before shooting rounds of 72-72-73 in 2016 to finished tied for 22nd at 1-over.

    The other four members of Boise State's group are each in their first seasons as Broncos. Junior Donny Hopoi transferred to Boise State from Dixie State after the 2015-16 campaign, and the freshman trio of Brian Humphreys, Connor Johnstone and Mason Schulze are all in their debut collegiate seasons.

    Donny Hopoi (Junior | Aiea, Hawaii)
    Hopoi, in his first season at Boise State after spending the previous two at Dixie State, has posted a top-10 finish along with three top-25 finishes over 10 events. Hopoi shot a 6-over to finish 18th at the Ogio Utah Invitational (Oct. 3-4), his first top-20 finish as a Bronco, and shot 1-over at the Ka'Anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 4-6). His top finish for the season came in the spring opener as he shot 3-over to finish sixth at the Folino Invitational (Jan. 30-31).

    Hopoi was part of the Bronco quintet that captured the team title at the Del Walker Intercollegiate (Feb. 27-28), making it the team's first title since 2013.

    Brian Humphreys (Freshman | Washougal, Wash.)
    Humphreys has had himself a debut season to remember at Boise State. The Washougal, Wash., native has earned medalist honors at two tournaments, first sharing the victory at the Ogio Utah Invitational (Oct. 3-4) then capturing the Del Walker Intercollegiate (Feb. 27-28). Humphreys has earned three Mountain West honors this season, being named golfer of the month for October/November and earning golfer of the week recognition on Feb. 7 and March 1.

    In addition to his two tournament victories, Humphreys has posted four top-10 finishes out of his 10 competitions. He finished second at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational (Oct. 27-29) and took third at the Folino Invitational (Jan. 30-31).

    Connor Johnstone (Freshman | Caldwell, Idaho)
    Johnstone has competed in eight events for the Broncos this season, notching a pair of top-25 finishes. He made his collegiate debut in the season opener, the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (Sept. 10-11), and scored his first top-25 finish at the Folino Invitational (Jan. 30-31), taking 25th at 10-over. Johnstone was part of the Bronco quintet that captured the team title at the Del Walker Intercollegiate (Feb. 27-28), where he tied for 22nd at 8-over.

    Johnstone, who has competed in all six of Boise State's spring competitions, was the top Bronco finisher at the Bandon Dunes Championship, finishing at 4-over.

    Kyle Mitsunaga (Senior | Boise, Idaho)
    Mitsunaga, the only senior on the championships roster as well as the only Bronco in the quintet who has previously played at the championships (2015-16), makes his sixth appearance for the team this season. Mitsunaga finished tied for 30th at 8-over in 2015 before shooting rounds of 72-72-73 in 2016 to finished tied for 22nd at 1-over.

    The Boise native has re-established himself in the rotation after an up-and-down fall and early spring. Mitsunaga competed at three fall tournaments, topping out with a 17th-place finish at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational with a 1-over. After participating at the Ka'Anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 4-6), Mitsunaga played in the PRO Compression Invitational (Feb. 13-14) then went two months between competitions, returning at the PING Cougar Classic. There, he finished tied for 27th at 2-over.

    Mason Schulze (Freshman | Poway, Calif.)
    Schulze, part of Boise State's freshman trio, will compete in his 10th event of the season with this weekend's conference championships. Along with fellow freshmen Humphreys and Johnstone, Schulze has competed in all six spring competitions this year leading up to this weekend.

    Schulze has posted a top-10 finish this year, with that coming at the Del Walker Intercollegiate (Feb. 27-28) where he finished second at even par, just a stroke behind Humphreys, the event's medalist. Schulze was also part of that quintet that captured Boise State's first team tournament title since 2013. He finished tied for 17th at the Duck Invitational (April 10-11), finishing at 1-under.
