Boise State Takes on BYU as Part of College MatchDay

BOISE, Idaho - A big weekend of tennis in Boise will include the No. 45 Boise State men's tennis team taking on No. 41 BYU at the Appleton Tennis Center, Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
The match will be highlighted by the United States Tennis Association as part of its College MatchDay series. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free hat and kids 10-and-under will have the chance to win more USTA giveaway prizes. Breakfast food will also be available at the concessions stand.
Parking will be available in the Liberal Arts/Library lot west of the Appleton Tennis Center.

In the Rankings - The Broncos moved up to No. 45 in the latest ITA Rankings with two wins last week.
Junior Andy Bettles is currently ranked the 29th-best singles player in the nation after a 7-3 fall season and a 18-4 record so far this spring. Bettles has played all 22 matches this spring at the No. 1 spot, nine of which have been against ranked opponents.
College MatchDay - College MatchDay debuted in February with more than 1,000 fans attending the Florida vs. Stanford women's match in Gainesville, Fla., and continued with the Virginia men hosting Duke in March. The USTA launched College MatchDay this year to highlight a number of premier men's and women's college tennis team matches each season, organizing activities and local outreach surrounding the host team's campus. College MatchDay will feature a team match every week beginning in 2014.
Scouting BYU - The Cougars are 15-4 this season with six wins against ranked opponents. Patrick Kawka leads the team with a 14-4 singles mark this spring playing primarily at the No. 1 position. Kawka has also paired with Francis to go 13-4 in doubles play. While strong at the top spot, the Cougars have seen less success at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions where they hold records of 9-10 and 8-8, respectively.
No Place Like Home - Boise State owns a 28-match home win streak after going a perfect 19-0 at home last season. The last Bronco loss in Boise came during the WAC Championships in 2011 in a 4-3 defeat against Fresno State.
Coming in Hot - Both Andy Bettles and Thomas Tenreiro have blowing by the competition over the past month. Bettles is on a 12-match win streak and has won 17 of his last 18 matches. Tenreiro's streak is up to 11 matches, winning 10 of those in straight sets.
Upset Specials - The Broncos have upset the last four teams to come to Boise with a higher ranking than the Orange and Blue. The last time Boise State lost to a higher ranked team in Boise was when No. 39 BYU came March 12, 2011 and defeated the 54th-ranked Broncos.
Player of the Week - Junior Nathan Sereke was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 27 after going 5-1 and earning three singles wins. Sereke marks the third consecutive Bronco to be named Player of the Week, marking the fourth honor for Boise State this season which is tied for first with San Diego State among conference schools.
Sophomore Garrett Patton was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 20, after going 4-0 at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. Patton won two singles matches and two doubles matches with partner Scott Sears.
Junior Andy Bettles has twice been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, first on Feb. 13 and most recently, March 13. Bettles has now received the award three times in his career and joins San Diego State's Thorsten Bertsch as the only two players to receive the honor twice this season.
