Men's Tennis Prepares to Defend Conference Title

USAFA, Colo. - The Boise State men's tennis team will enter the 2013 Mountain West Tournament as the No. 2 seed, pitting the Broncos against No. 7 Air Force in a first-round matchup, Thursday at 2 p.m. If Boise state were to advance it would face either No. 3 UNLV or No. 6 Nevada in the semifinals, Saturday.

In the Rankings - The Broncos dropped two spots to No. 46 in the latest ITA despite winning at home against Nevada last weekend, 5-2.
Junior Andy Bettles is currently ranked the 36th-best singles player in the nation after a 7-3 fall season and a 21-5 record so far this spring. Bettles has played all 26 matches this spring at the No. 1 spot, 13 of which have been against ranked opponents.
Scouting Air Force - The Falcons enter the tournament enter as the No. 7 seed after going 0-6 in conference matches and sporting an 11-12 overall record. Their fortunes have been drastically better at home where the team is 9-4 this season. Senior Lance Wilhelm leads the squad with a 14-7 record at the No. 1 position this spring and is ranked 98th in the country.
The first matchup between the two teams was early this season and resulted in a 5-2 Boise State win, Jan. 19. Boise State picked up a point from the doubles matches as well as the middle of its singles lineup, taking matches in straight sets at Nos. 2-5. Andy Bettles was upset by Wilhelm as part of his early-season slump and Brian Foley lost in three sets at No. 6 due to the absence of Nathan Sereke.
Coming in Hot -Thomas Tenreiro has been blowing by the competition over the past month. Tenreiro's win streak is up to 15 matches, taking 14 of those in straight sets. The streak is the longest of any Boise State student-athlete this season.
Fantastic Freshman - Thomas Tenreiro picked up his 20th dual win last week against Nevada, making him one of three Bronco freshman to reach the mark in the past five seasons. The previous two freshman were Andy Bettles and James Meredith.
On Top of the Mountain - Boise State has taken the Mountain West by storm since entering in 2011. The Broncos are 12-1 in conference matches overall after a 7-0 debut season on their way to a Mountain West Championship.
Player of the Week - A Boise State student-athlete has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week five times this season, the most of any team in the conference
Junior Andy Bettles has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week three times this season, first on Feb. 13, again March 13, and most recently April 17. He is tied with Ace Matias of UNLV for the most player of the week honors this season. Bettles has now received the award four times in his career.
Junior Nathan Sereke was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 27 after going 5-1 and earning three singles wins. Sereke marks the third consecutive Bronco to be named Player of the Week, marking the fourth honor for Boise State this season which is tied for first with San Diego State among conference schools.
Sophomore Garrett Patton was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 20, after going 4-0 at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. Patton won two singles matches and two doubles matches with partner Scott Sears.
End-of-Season Banquet - Come celebrate the Boise State men's and women's tennis teams at the season's end banquet, May 5 at 5 p.m. The event will take place in the Stueckle Sky Center with free parking in the West Stadium Lot.
