WHAT IS HAPPENING


  • Boise State's men's tennis team will open the fall season this weekend when the Broncos send two members to compete in the prestigious Battle in the Bay Classic at San Francisco this Friday through Sunday at the historic California Tennis Club.
  • Competition will begin Friday morning with the first round of doubles play, followed by the start of singles action at 2:30 p.m. (Mountain) and run through Sunday afternoon.

  • The draws and results will be available on the USTA website. In addition, The University of San Francisco is planning to provide live video stream on a few courts, The hyper-links for all three (draws, results and live stream) can be found above under the "This Week's Facts" section. 

TOURNAMENT FIELD AND FORMAT


  • The Field: Competing in the 2017 edition of the Battle in the Bay Classic will be representatives from 12 colleges and universities from across the Untied States. Joining Boise State in San Francisco are: San Francisco (tournament host), California, Georgia, Texas Christian, Southern Cal, Pacific, Pepperdine, Portland, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego and Hawaii.
  • Format: The tournament will consists of a 32 player singles draw and a doubles draw consisting of 16 pairs. 

REPRESENTING BOISE STATE


  • Boise State is sending two to compete in San Francisco. The tandem will consist of junior Jack Heslin and freshman Matteo Tinelli
  • Jack Heslin: The junior from Auckland, New Zealand, returns for his second campaign as a member of the Bronco team after transferring from Tennessee following his freshman year. Last year, Heslin went a team-best 19-13 overall in singles and played most of the team dual season at No. 2 and 3 singles where he went a combined 11-10. In doubles, Heslin went 15-18 overall. He spent most of the year paired up with Kyle Butters with whom he went 13-10 overall on the year and 6-7 in spring duals playing on court one. 
  • Matteo Tinelli: Tinelli is one of three newcomers on the squad this fall and comes to Boise State from Milan, Italy. Tinelli has had a career-high ITF Tennis singles ranking of 988 on the pro circuit last April, as well as a career-high combined junior ranking of 266 in February of 2015.
