BOISE, Idaho - Gaylen Edmo has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Boise State wrestling program, head coach Greg Randall announced Monday.
Edmo, a heavyweight from Pocatello, Idaho (Highland HS), captured the Idaho 5A State Championship both his junior and senior years. He also finished runner-up as a sophomore, and third at the state tournament as a freshman.
While wrestling at 235 pounds for the Naval Academy Prep School in 2012-13, Edmo finished runner-up at the Northeast Conference Championships in Durham, N.H., helping to lead his squad to the league title. He also won an individual title at the National Wrestling Coaches' Association "Fall Brawl" at Ursinus College in Philadelphia.
Edmo completed his high school career with an overall record of 146-17, a mark that included 120 pins. He was named USA Wrestling Idaho Outstanding Senior Wrestler of the Year, and was USA Wrestling Idaho's top-ranked "Future Olympian."
He earned Fargo National High School All-America status as a sophomore in both Greco and freestyle, and earned the honor once more as a junior in Greco. Edmo also captured the Idaho State Triple Crown Wrestling Championship his junior season.
Also a standout football player, Edmo was named 5A Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 in addition to earning first-team all-region accolades as both a sophomore and junior. He started for the Rams as a freshman, helping to lead Highland to the 5A State Championship.
