Broncos Travel to Reno for TOC

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State wrestling team will travel to Reno, Nev., for the 2015 Reno Tournament of Champions, scheduled for Sunday (Dec. 20) at the Reno Events Center.

Boise State will be one of 24 schools competing at the tournament, a field that also includes Pac-12 opponents Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Oregon State and Stanford.

The tournament is scheduled to begin with the pig tail rounds at 10:30 a.m. MT. The semifinals are set for 3:45 p.m. on four mats, and the first-, third- and fifth-place matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m.

The Broncos did not place anyone at last year’s Reno Tournament of Champions. The last individual to place was Cody Dixon, who finished fourth at 197 pounds, Dec. 22, 2013. In 2012, Jason Chamberlain (149) and Jake Swartz (184) each captured tournament titles, leading Boise State to a second-place team finish.

Sophomore Geordan Martinez checks in as the Broncos’ only ranked individual this week, ranking 14th nationally at 149 pounds in the Amateur Wrestling News Division I Rankings. He also ranked 18th nationally in the InterMat rankings.

Following the Reno Tournament of Champions, the Boise State wrestling team will be off until Jan. 15, when the team welcomes North Dakota State to Bronco Gym (7 p.m.). The dual with the Bison is the first of four-straight home matches for the Broncos.
