Broncos Head To Reno For Showdown

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State (15-9, 9-4 MW) goes for its third-straight win Wednesday as it travels to Reno to face Nevada (11-12, 4-8 MW). The Broncos finish the week Saturday in Colorado Springs, visiting Air Force for a 1 p.m. MT tip.
LAST TIME OUT
Marta Hermida starred for the Broncos once again, scoring 21 points, including the final seven of the game, while going 6-for-11 from the field and 7-for-8 from the line. Down the stretch, Hermida hit a key 3-pointer with 1:11 left to give the Broncos a four-point lead, then went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the win.
Nevada overcame a late Boise State lead at Taco Bell Arena back on Jan. 20, scoring seven-straight points over the final two minutes to beat the Broncos, 72-68. The Wolf Pack, however, have lost five-straight since that win over the Broncos.
Teige Zeller leads Nevada with 13.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
HERMIDA NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hermida scored a career-high 26 points in Wednesday’s victory over New Mexico, and followed up with 21 Saturday against the Aggies. But it was in the fourth quarter where Hermida took over. Wednesday, the Madrid, Spain native scored 13 points in the final frame, including the final nine Boise State points and went 7-for-8 from the line in the final minute. Saturday, she scored 11 points in the quarter, going 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute and scoring the final seven points of the game.
GREAT BOUNCE BACK FOR HERMIDA
However, outside of the game at UNLV, in the other five games of the most recent six-game stretch, Hermida is shooting 50.0 percent (32-for-64) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from 3-point range while averaging 17.5 points.
ONE FINAL HOMECOMING
Shaw has performed respectably over six games against the Wolf Pack, averaging 8.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.00 steals while shooting 37.5 percent from the field. The Broncos are 4-2 against Nevada during Shaw’s career, including a 2-1 markin Reno, where Shaw averages 8.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and shoots 37.0 percent (10-for-27).
COLEMAN MAKES A STARTING STATEMENT
Coleman, a transfer from Arizona who had to sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA rules, has made a strong case for the Mountain West Sixth Woman of the Year award, averaging 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds a game with a 52.1 field-goal percentage, and ranking second in the conference with 25 blocks.
LUPFER KEEPS POSTING 20
Wedneseday against New Mexico, Lupfer went for 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, and followed with 24 points and five 3-pointers in Saturday’s win over Utah State.
This year, while Lupfer is shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point range (90-for-199), she has been just as deadly inside the arc and at the line, shooting 51.1 percent (47-for-92) on 2-point shots, and 91.9 percent (34-for-37) from the line.
COLD-BLOODED FROM THE LINE
Wednesday, the Broncos went 18-for-20, all in the second half, against New Mexico, including 11-for-12 in the fourth quarter as they held off the Lobos in the 91-85 win. Saturday, the Broncos were 18-for-22 from the line in defeating Utah State, 68-60.
In Wednesday games, the Broncos average 81.2 points, shoot 47.6 from the field and 42.5 from 3-point range, and own a plus-9.7 rebound margin. But, on Saturdays, those numbers dip, as the Broncos average just 63.6 points per game, shot 41.0 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from 3-point range, and have a minus-0.2 rebound margin. In fact, Boise State’s scoring margin goes from plus-9.4 on Wednesdays to minus-0.8 on Saturdays.
