WHAT’S HAPPENING

  • The Game: Boise State (14-9, 9-3 MW) will be hosting its biggest game of the year this Wednesday when the Broncos welcome the Mountain West Conference’s top team in Colorado State (20-4, 12-1 MW) to Taco Bell arena for a 7 p.m. (Mountain) tip. This is the lone meeting of the year between these two teams.
  • Ticket Promotion: Play for Kay game as everyone is asked to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Ticket price is $3 for anyone wearing pink to the game.

THE SERIES

  • All-Time Record: Wednesday’s game will be the eighth meeting all-time in the series between the Broncos and Rams with Colorado State holding a slim 4-3 advantage, it will be the fifth Mountain West encounter in which the Rams lead that series 4-0.
  • At Boise: The Broncos are 1-2 all-time versus Colorado State in Boise, the Rams have won the two MW encounters at Taco Bell Arena. 
  • Last Year: Colorado State swept the Broncos last season 57-56 in Boise and 72-60 at Fort Collins.
  • This Year: This is the lone meeting of the regular season between Boise State and Colorado State.


SETTING THE SCENE

  • Preseason Poll: Colorado State was picked to place seventh in the 2014 conference race in the combined coaches and media preseason poll, while Boise State was selected eighth. 
  • Ramifications of this Game: If Colorado State wins this game they would take an almost insurmountable lead in the conference race up three wins over their nearest competitors. If Boise State wins, the Broncos would climb to within one game of Colorado State in the league standings and would need help to catch the Rams. If they did manage to catch the Rams, the Broncos would hold the head-to-head tie breaker in seeding to the MW tournament.
  • Recently for Boise State: Boise State has won eight of its last nine contests, most recently recording a 86-80 overtime victory on the road at New Mexico (Feb. 12). 
  • Boise State’s Record: The Broncos have now won 10 of their last 13 contest since Christmas and are 14-9 on the year and 9-3 in conference action, good for sole possession of second-place in the league standings. 
  • Recently for Colorado State: The Rams swept a pair of games last week defeating Utah State 100-75 in Logan, Utah, on Wednesday, followed by a 53-47 home win over Fresno State on Saturday. 
  • CSU’s Record: The Rams have won nine straight and 16 of their last 17 games. They enter the week at 20-4 overall and 12-1 in MW play, their lone league loss was at Fresno State 60-50 on Jan. 11.
  • Boise State at Home: The Broncos are 10-2 overall and 4-0 during MW action in Taco Bell Arena and 1-0 in Bronco Gym this year. They are 270-142 (.655 pct.) all-time in the arena. Boise State has an active six-game home win streak going.
  • Boise State on the Road: After dropping their first six road games of the season the Broncos are now 4-7 on the road, 4-3 in league contests.
  • Colorado State on the Road: This year Colorado State has been steady on the road going 8-3 away from Fort Collins. 
  • Leading the Broncos: Deanna Weaver leads the team in scoring average at 14.5 points and team-high 6.2 rebounds per game, after 13 contests, Miquelle Askew follows at 13.5 points per game average (10th MW) but leads the team in total points with 310. Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego is next at 10.3 ppg while Lexie Der adds 10.4 ppg. 
  • Leading the Rams: Colorado State is extremely balanced and has six players averaging between 12.2 and 9.1 points per game, led by senior Sam Martin at 12.2 ppg (13th MW), AJ Newton is second at 11.2 ppg (20th MW), followed by Caitlin Duffy at 11.0 ppg.
