Broncos Win Chicago Style with Season High Score

CHICAGO – The 18th-ranked Boise State gymnastics team recorded the 15th-best team total in school history Friday evening (Feb. 7), winning the Chicago Style Collegiate quadrangular meet and improving to 8-2 on the season.

The Broncos earned a season-best total of 196.325 to top Bowling Green (194.325), North Carolina (192.075) and Illinois-Chicago (191.950) at Chicago’s Navy Pier. Boise State earned team scores of 49.00 on vault and 49.150 on the uneven bars, as well as season-bests of 49.00 on balance beam and 49.175 on floor exercise.

Juniors Kelsey Morris and Ciera Perkins led the Broncos, each earning two individual titles. Morris scored a career-best of 39.275 to win her fourth all-around title this season. Her four wins also marks her career total, tying the seventh best career all-around wins total in school history. The Snohomish, Wash., native shared the balance beam title with teammate Paige Urquhart, scoring 9.850’s. In addition, Morris tied for second on floor with a score of 9.850.

Perkins captured her third title of the season on bars scoring 9.875. The win marked her seventh career bars title, tying for the ninth-best Boise State career total. The Las Vegas native also earned her fourth title of the season on floor, tying for the 10th-best in Boise State season floor titles. Her score of 9.90 helped her earn her fifth-career title on the event.  Perkins added a 9.875 performance on vault, earning second on the event.

Adding to a solid team effort freshman Diana Mejia earned a second-place finish on bars (9.850), senior Kelsey Black placed third on vault (9.850) and sophomore Krystine Jacobsen placed third on beam (9.825).

The Broncos improve to 3-1 all-time over Illinois-Chicago and 2-0 over both North Carolina and Bowling Green.

Boise State continues next week on its three-week road stretch heading to Corvallis, Ore., to take on Oregon State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific. The four teams will face off Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. (MT).
