BOISE, Idaho - The Broncos officially began training for the 2013 season today at Boas Soccer Complex. The team will take part in two-a-day practices leading up to the season opener against Idaho State on August 23. This year, nine freshmen will make their debut for the orange and blue, giving the roster a healthy mix of youth and experience.

"Our philosophy this season is to improve every session," said head coach Jim Thomas. "The idea is if we build upon the last practice, then we will have the tools to be strong in our season opener and each game thereafter."

The team looks to improve upon last year's results, finishing second in the Mountain West. Nine starters from last season return this year, including leading Bronco scorer Shannon Schueren and Mountain West Freshman of the Year Brooke Heidemann.

"Right now we are laying the defensive foundations," said Thomas. "We are focusing on the general concepts of the back line, and each practice we will build on those foundations. This first practice was hard but the result was good. The older players warmed to the task and the freshmen are beginning to find their footing."

Boise State will start the season on the road against Idaho State Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. The team will return two days later for the home opener against Creighton Aug. 25 at 12 p.m.
