Heaney Wins 200 Fly, Broncos Finish Second

Boise State women's swimming and diving finished second at the 2013 Mountain West Championships with 575 points. Rachel Heaney won the 200-yard butterfly to highlight the final day of competition.

Head coach Kristin Hill shares her thoughts on the Oregon State dual meet and the upcoming Mountain West Championships.

Junior (2012-13): Scored in three events and set four lifetime bests at the 2013 Mountain West Championships, doubling individual point total from 2012...finished fourth in 200 fly, best finish of career at a conference meet...won `B' Final of 400 IM to place ninth and took 15th in 500 free...in addition to three scoring races, set career-best time in time trial of 200 free...earned first-career victory with win in 200 free at Colorado State (Jan. 26)...placed in top five in 19 of 20 individual races during dual-meet competition, including one win and five runner-up finishes...set seven lifetime bests on the season (200 back, 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 free, 500 free, 200 IM, 400 IM)...earned Bronco Heart Award at year-end banquet.

Sophomore (2011-12): Scored in two events at the 2012 Mountain West Championships, while setting four career bests at the meet...won the 200 fly 'B' Final with a lifetime best for ninth-place points...came in 13th in the 400 IM after setting a personal best in prelims...won 'C' Final of 500 free with a best time... earned a career best in 200 free time trial... set career best in 100 fly at Missouri Invite (Dec. 2)...took fourth in the 200 fly at Rice Invite (Oct. 29)...finished second in the 200 and 500 free against Colorado State (Jan. 28)...runner up in 200 fly against Idaho (Oct. 8)...second in 200 free at Seattle (Nov. 19)...tallied eight top-three finishes...MW Scholar-Athlete...Academic All-MW.

Freshman (2010-11): Scored top-eight finishes in two events at the 2011 WAC Championships...placed seventh in the 200 fly and eighth in the 400 individual medley...swam in 'C' Final of 500 freestyle...set five career bests at conference meet...scored in the 1000 free in three dual meets, placing as high as second against Seattle (Jan. 14)...took third in the 200 fly at the final two dual meets of the season...scored in the 200 fly and 400 IM at the Missouri Invitational...WAC All-Academic.

High School: Earned two letters in high school, one at Monroe High School in Monroe, Mich., and one at Lincoln Southeast...swam last two years of high school for Lincoln Select Swimming, founded and coached by her parents...as a freshman at Monroe, earned first-team All-MEGA Conference and all-region honors with a league title in 200 free, and second-place finish in 100 fly...earned all-state after placing fifth at state meet in 500 free and swimming two other events...member of All-American 400 free relay team, school-record holder in 400 free relay...voted team Most Valuable Freshman...as a sophomore at Lincoln Southeast earned first-team All-Heartland Conference winning 100 fly and 200 IM at conference meet...Named all-region and all-state with third-place finishes at state meet in 500 free and 200 IM...Club team won long course and short course state championships in 2010...2009 Midwestern Swimming Short Course Swimmer of the Year...earned 2010 Midwestern Swimming High Point Award in short course and long course...USA Swimming Academic All-American...valedictorian and member of the National Honors Society.
