Nosek and Kuljanin Win in Spokane

GONZAGA BULLDOG INVITATIONAL RECAP

SPOKANE, Wash. - Boise State had a good day in Spokane, Wash., where Wiktoria Nosek and Jovana Kuljanin won singles matches on the day second of the Gonzaga Bulldogs Invitational on Saturday.

Nosek took on Portland State’s Allisandra Valk in the blue flight’s semifinals Saturday afternoon recording a hard fought three-set victory over the Viking 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The win advances the sophomore into Sunday’s championship match against Gonzaga’s Ashleigh Jacobs.

Kuljanin played in the white flight’s consolation semifinals on Saturday where she defeated Eastern Washington’s Marta Heinen in straight sets 6-2, 7-5. The native of Murrieta, Calif., trailed 2-5 in the second set before rallying for the win with five victories.

The junior now moves into Sunday’s consolation championship match against EWU’s Rachel Swindell.

The Boise State tandem did compete in doubles on Saturday as well. They took on Portland State’s Brianna Thompson and Eszter Zador in the consolation semifinals where they lost 6-4 to the Viking duo.

RIVIERA ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Boise State struggled on the opening day of the 2017 Riviera ITA All-American Championships Saturday as the four-member contingent were unable to record a victory at this prestigious event.

Anja Dokic was the only one of the four to be invited to compete in the tournament’s pre-qualifying phase for singles. The sophomore from Perth, Australia, faced DePaul’s Keisha Clousing in the round of 64 losing a heartbreaker to the Blue Demon in a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(1). Dokic then moved into the back draw where she fell in two sets 6-2, 6-4 to NC State’s Bianca Moldovan ending her run at the tournament in singles.

The Broncos had two doubles teams competing this afternoon beginning with the freshmen tandem of Wilhelmina Palmer and Vanessa Timm. The Scandinavian duo battled Loyola Marymount’s team of Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek falling to the Lions 8-3. They will move into Sunday’s back draw against Louisiana Monroe’s (ULM) Stefana Andrei and Karolina Snita.

Dokic played doubles with Lilian Poling, the pair opened up with San Diego’s Nicole Anderson and Colomba DiFilippo. The Bronco duo battled hard only to come up on the short end of a tiebreaker 8-7(4). Dokic and Poling will also move into the back draw on Sunday where they will meet Lindsey Hodge and Michaela Haet from Rice.
