
Broncos Lose to Aztecs

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State was defeated by San Diego State 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20 in Mountain West women's volleyball at Bronco Gym, Saturday.

Sydney Dreves led the Broncos (14-7, 6-4 MW) with 12 kills, With the win, the Aztecs (12-9, 7-3) took sole possession of third place in the conference. Boise State is tied for fourth place with Wyoming.

The first half of the opening set was close with ties at every point through 12-all. Then, the Aztecs went on a 13-2 run to earn a convincing margin. San Diego State hit .500 in the set and held Boise State to .000.

San Diego State roared out to an 18-9 lead in set two before Dreves and Eliza Sharp keyed an 8-3 run with two kills apiece to close the gap to 21-17. However, the Broncos did not get closer than four points and the Aztecs grabbed a 2-0 lead.

A pair of kills by Dreves helped the Broncos take a 6-2 advantage in set three. The Aztecs went on a 7-2 run to lead 9-8, but Boise State scored six of the next seven to surge in front 14-10.

The teams continued to trade runs, this time San Diego State using a 6-1 spurt to go on top 16-15. Boise State responded again, led by a block assist and two kills from Kendall Hastings, to go back on top 20-17. Dreves and Sharp sealed the set with a block.

In the fourth set, San Diego State took control with five-straight points to go up 14-9 and led by as many as six. Trailing 20-14, Boise State closed within three on a pair of kills by Sharp and an attack error by the Aztecs.

San Diego State pushed the lead back to five at 22-17, but Boise State scored three straight points, capped by an ace from Ari Bilby to cut the deficit to 22-20. The Aztecs then scored the next three to close out the match.
